Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.

The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

Secrets Left to Post: ?? pages, ??? secrets from Secret Submission Post #296.
Secrets Not Posted: [ 0 - broken links ], [ 0 - not!secrets ], [ 0 - not!fandom ], [ 0 - too big ], [ 0 - repeat ].
Current Secret Submissions Post: here.
Suggestions, comments, and concerns should go here.

I kind of agree. I enjoy commenting on the discussion posts but I don't think the mod should start the post by saying what crap it was (even if it was).

That said, the fandom has shrunk a lot since '09, so I don't think it's fair to call the remaining members "BNF trolls". Yes, some of them were also BNFs in the fandom's heyday, but now they're just the people who have stuck around and stayed active.

I wish Watchmen fandom was busier, though, with some more people's input. I was hoping for a bigger resurgence with BW.

I'm not surprised there hasn't been a resurgence. The things the secret say? They started the second any rumor of BW even started. If I were a new fan coming into the fandom through BW I'd be scared as hell of beind judged, cast-out and hated in the fandom and probably wouldn't be vocal in the fandom.

I was hoping for a bigger resurgence with BW.

Personally, I don't think the absence of this is because new fans are being put off by criticism. I don't know of anybody who's reading BW without having read Watchmen first. I think it's more that BW, by filling in backstory, effectively shrinks the sandbox rather than enlarging it. So where the fandom used to have quite a lot of fic set pre-GN, and discussion about what made the characters who they were, that's now set-in-stone, and if you're not somebody who can handwave new canon, that's going to put a damper on your creativity.

(FWIW, personally, I'm loving Silk Spectre and Minutemen, though I do have issues with some of the others.)

i don't consider them set in stone, since it's basically like published fanfic. you're free to ignore it.

Yeah, but being free to ignore it doesn't equate to it inspiring fannish creativity.
