Notes:
Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.
If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.
The submissions post for next week is below as usual.
Secrets Left to Post: ?? pages, ??? secrets from Secret Submission Post #296.
Secrets Not Posted: [ 0 - broken links ], [ 0 - not!secrets ], [ 0 - not!fandom ], [ 0 - too big ], [ 0 - repeat ].
Current Secret Submissions Post: here.
Suggestions, comments, and concerns should go here.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-06 01:10 am (UTC)(link)This is the thing that gets me. Everything has been done to fucking death. There are only a finite number of stories, and they've all been fucking told already. Declaring that one particular genre is "cliche" or "done to death" is kind of like theory-induced blindness: you have the genre that you prefer and that you think is the most legitimate, and all other genres are tired or corny. In reality, there is no perfect genre, and there is nothing new under the goddamn sun.
Although actually, while we're going there, SF/F probably offers the only new shit under the sun, because it requires new world creation. In terms of plot and characterization, however, someone, somewhere, has already done it. Guaranteed, whether it's "literature" or something else.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-06 04:15 am (UTC)(link)He was actually very supportive, and he was the first person in any form of academia that didn't treat my desire to write about magic and spaceships like some kind of pox. It was very nice, all things considered. :)
