Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.
If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.
The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

Re: hair care question
(Anonymous) 2012-09-06 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)I don't style my hair (it's naturally curly so sometimes I don't even brush it) and wash it every other day because otherwise it gets greasy. As a hairdresser, she should know not all hair is the same, and it can be unhealthy to constantly wash and style it.
(My hairdresser actually complimented me for leaving mine alone)
The whole 'No point to long hair if you don't style it' exchange was just...weird. What's wrong with just having long hair? That's basically a style all of its own. Maybe she thought you were neglecting it somehow? Did she mention that it looked unhealthy/that you were doing something wrong?
Either there was a cross-wire in communication or she seriously overstepped herself.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2012-09-07 12:52 am (UTC)(link)I hadn't had it cut in about three years because I hate hairdressers so much (some people have phobias of dentists or doctors, I get to be weird and have a phobia of hairdressers, yay) so there were a lot of split ends. But she cut off way more than just the parts that looked bad. She also told me that I was letting it get too dry by not conditioning it, but the last time I went there she told me that my type of hair doesn't need conditioner, so idek.
She also pressured me into having it layered when I only wanted a normal trim because "Oh well you have to do something with it." I hate having it layered because I've had it like that before and it keeps falling out of a ponytail and I hate bobbypins. She tried to make me get a fringe as well but I put my foot down. She got all huffy.
Now that I think about it, my mother would have been telling her all kinds of crap about me not looking after my hair (it takes so long to brush that I only brush it if I'm leaving the house, which apparently constitutes hair abuse) so I guess she had preconceived notions.
And now I'm feeling creeped out wondering if that's how she knew to suggest the three specific things I hate about how my hair was when I was little (short, layered and fringe)
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2012-09-07 01:06 am (UTC)(link)(I'm the same as you, rarely going to a hairdresser. Idk- it's hair. It's not that interesting to me)
Sometimes their advice can be helpful, but it seems to me that she needs to work on her customer care. My hairdresser convinced me to get a fringe with some friendly advice and careful explanation of what she'd do and constantly asking me if 'this is alright'. Seems like you had one that doesn't know how to sell her skills :/
Next time try putting your foot down...politely. The line "I'm really not comfortable with this" usually works. You are a customer after all.
