Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.

The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

Secrets Left to Post: ?? pages, ??? secrets from Secret Submission Post #296.
Secrets Not Posted: [ 0 - broken links ], [ 0 - not!secrets ], [ 0 - not!fandom ], [ 0 - too big ], [ 0 - repeat ].
Current Secret Submissions Post: here.
Suggestions, comments, and concerns should go here.

Honestly, I've found that when you look past the fringe parts of the fandom (the ones who have never read the comic and just draw one hundred Eridans because he is kawaii), it's not much different from other fandoms.

We're a bit overenthusiastic, certainly, but the majority of Homestucks I've spoken to (on Tumblr, no less!) have be respectful, polite, and all around good people.

If you judge a fandom only by its bad members, then every fandom is terrible. Every single one. It's not fair to paint us all with the same brush because we happen to have a few more bad apples than most. That just comes with being a larger fandom.

It's proportions, really.

We have about as many nuts as anybody. But we are so huge now the nuts can congregate in groups that dwarf entire fandoms of other works.

WE ARE HUGE!

THAT MEANS WE HAVE HUGE NUTS!

RIP AND TEAR!!!!

Honestly, I really don't get those people. Not the ones who are like "oh I haven't read it but these characters look kind of cool," but the super hardcore "I update on a daily basis and love love LOVE this thing that I've never read" folks.

I mean I guess there's nothing wrong with them, but - if you love something that much - why not just read it.

I also don't quite get the people who are like "I love homestuck, but there's not really a plot." :\

There really is something wrong with that though.

Because usually they start spouting the stupidest shit.

If you wanna lurk that's fine, but don't talk about something with authority you know jack shit about. Fanfics do not comprise summaries, you don't know what's actually going on.

Okay, yeah, I haven't ever heard of them talk about plot related stuff. Or are you talking about like character analysis arguments because yeah, then that's fucking annoying.

I mostly just follow art blogs and stuff on tumblr, so - while I see the occasional "here's this fanart I drew even though I've never read the comic" - I end missing a lot of the wank and meta that I'm sure exists.

I saw a little of the former, but mostly the latter.

The fanart people who just say "I like this characters look/vibe, I wanna draw this" I got no problem with.

Because, frankly, I think this part of the fandom is made up of teens. They're shallow and they're just obsessed with what looks 'cool'. Gamzee is 'omg sexy insane', Eridan is 'woobie just wants to be loved', Karkat is 'angry just needs to be tamed by some healing cock'.

They don't read the story because they're not interested in the story - they're interested in taking the appearance of a character and pasting them onto a generic character stereotype. They think there isn't a plot because they've never bothered to actually sit down and look at the story for more than five minutes. They've got their 'hawt' guys, no need for their actual characterisations to muck things up!

I also don't quite get the people who are like "I love homestuck, but there's not really a plot." :\

They must not be reading very closely. o.o
