Like, in my English class my teacher pointed out that stories about dudes lusting after women and getting rejected for not respecting them was common, but each story was a little different because the writer was looking at the old work and trying to improve or build on it with their own take.
Though a lot of people nowadays are just writing what they know sells, so that's not always the case. I had to take a break from fandoms too for a while, so maybe that's what you need.
