You change, the world changes, nothing wrong about it.
And it has nothing to do with being "too old for fandom", but you simply want other things.
I figure OP's problem with it is more that it means they don't get as much to talk about with their fandom friends, and that can be an issue.
But you may find other things to talk about. And you may not, and the relationships may fade away.
And either way, there is nothing wrong with that, either...
It takes two to tango, but it also takes a music to dance it to.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)For example with me there was a huge lull right before Avengers. It really does come in waves.

Like, in my English class my teacher pointed out that stories about dudes lusting after women and getting rejected for not respecting them was common, but each story was a little different because the writer was looking at the old work and trying to improve or build on it with their own take.
Though a lot of people nowadays are just writing what they know sells, so that's not always the case. I had to take a break from fandoms too for a while, so maybe that's what you need.

I hadn't watched any live action TV since Proposal Daisakusen and Gossip Girl in 2007, but this year I watched Peep Show and The Wire and I am in love with them both and wish they had fandoms. You never know when something will grab you.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-08 11:38 am (UTC)(link)I think it's for two reasons. First is that there are only so many stories, and Shakespeare wrote them all anyhow. So of course after a while you get bored with the same old tropes. (Mind I never get bored with my favourite Shakespeare plays..)
Secondly, I think genuinely that films aren't as good because everything has to make the most money now, have you noticed how all major films are rated toward a teen audience? They are made for 12 year olds. So where Total Recall back in the day was an 18 certificate, and it was exciting and felt different, the remake is a 12A certificate, and feels meh. This seems to be a real trend. Not saying films didn't always have to make money, but there wasn't the same need to appeal to 12 year olds all of the time. I think this applies to television and books as well, everything has become bland, and just a bit samey, if something makes money a lot of copies come along.
