A comment above reminded me of a thing I hatehatehate. I spend a lot of time on Kongregate playing pretty much everything (I like badges okay), and there are all kinds of shooters and upgrades and multiplayer and tower defense and strategy and this and that and kill kill kill and blood and omg <3

And then there'll be a game from a place with a name like "Games for Girls". in which you bake cupcakes! or dress up for your hot date with the cute guy! or puppy simulations! tee hee!

I die a little more every time.

I love Kong!

I haven't been on there for about a month because I've been taking a break from flash games (a fast actually, and it's been a good thing because for a while I was spending waaaaaaaay too much time on them) but I'll be back on in a couple days.~

What are your favorite games? You mentioned tower defense, do you play any of the Bloons TD games?

*is a girl, and has gotten more sexism than I would have liked from some of the people there, but...*

I don't think I could take a break. I'm totally addicted and I don't caaare. I love flash games in between the big flashy pricy ones.

I avoided Bloons for a long time, but I've started going back and playing them with the latest one. My favorite TD are probably the Gemcraft ones. I've spent months on one of them. I'll pretty much play anything. I love platformers and racing and any goofy little puzzle with a neat twist. Oh! I got the impossible badge on Pandemic 2. :D Proudest moment of my whole dorky life.

I never even look at chat. I shudder to think what goes on there.

Never played Gemcraft but I've heard good things about it. I do like Pandemic 2! I think I beat it once a long time ago on a different site. But it's so hard to do. DAMMIT, MADAGASCAR.

Personally I love puzzle and strategy. Some of my favorite games are customizable card games with an online versus option like Castle Wars 2 and Tyrant. (Those were the two I was spending the most time on before taking a break. I'd recently discovered Tyrant, and was revisiting Castle Wars 2. I started playing CW2 on Ninjakiwi so I had to start all over on Kong...)

Some of the people in chat are awesome but some of them are jerks. Fortunately you can mute people who bother you, but in general I don't think the system for penalizing assholes and trolls is very good. And the mods can be really lax. I've only ever been in one room for an extended period of time, but the mod's attitude was basically "don't be an oversensitive lump".

Basically it's something to do while waiting for the game to load or whatever. I'll glance at it, see a bit of interesting conversation, and get sucked in...and then get upset because of somebody being a sexist idiot or whatever...the rooms seem to be a place where everyone assumes you are a straight male between the ages of 18 and 30, and if you're not, they expect you to not make a big deal out of it and get over it if you think they're being inappropriate. I sometimes feel like a big whiner for pointing out that I'm not a guy so please don't call me a "he", thanks, and stuff like that. Like they just don't really wanna hear about it... (one of my biggest Internet pet peeves: people using "he" because they assume anyone on the Internet is male. I've even had someone tell me, in these words, "There are no females on the Internet." I guess he meant, male normativity is ok and it's not going anywhere and suck it up because we men shouldn't have to pander to those annoying pesky females! ugh. that wasn't on Kong though, that was YouTube, which is just...yeah.)

I'm sorry about the experiences that you've had (I've had some of the same ones, unfortunately. It's why I try to stay in my little corner of the internet/gaming and ignore everything else. For example, I enjoy playing MMOs, but I always try to get into a guild that has a lot of women in it because that generally indicates that a) it's a good environment and b) its male members are respectful of women).

The one thing I did want to say, however, is that "there are no females on the internet" may not have meant what you think it did. That phrase has become an ironic joke at this point (i.e. it's funny because it's a completely ridiculous proposition). Doesn't mean he wasn't being an asshole, it's just that there's a possibility he was using it as meme rather than as actual commentary.
