Truth is? Everyone in fandoms with bad reps gets tarred by it a little, it doesn't matter if you're an Old Fan!!1! or a just-discovered-it-tumblrite or whatever. And the only way to change that is by letting people know you're a homestuck fan, sharing your interest in an upbeat/reasonable/respectful way, staying the same fun friend they know, and backing off if they say they don't want to get into it.

As for the small fandom nostalgia...well, I had that for Harry Potter fandom back in the day. It's an understandable way to feel. Just don't be a dick to anyone about it, focus on the cool things about having a large fandom, and build the kind of small, intimate community that you want out of your own friends and contacts.

It's hard to introduce new fandoms to someone who doesn't know them. For me, it's extra worse because the fandom I'm in is freakin' Touhou Project. Just trying to convince people that it isn't a loli game but a bullet hell shooter is bad enough. Trying to convince them to play after they saw the YouTube video replays are WORSE.

Still, don't give up OP. I'm currently reading Homestuck (now at the Jade Harley intro) so consider me an introduced person! And no, I won't judge the fandom. If there's one thing Touhou has taught me, it's that fans can do AMAZING stuff when they're devoted. So keep spreading the word, OP!

Well, the forum chunk of the fandom is currently working on an anime and several animations on its own, in addition to the whole adventure game kickstarter thing, plus the mountains of cosplay, fic, music, art, etc.

And Hussie has a tendency to take the really cool stuff and work it into the canon. So its not that surprising the fandom is really devoted (and slightly rabid at times)

Eh, my only problem with homestuck fandom is that...really, people are donating more to Hussie than he needs [since it's already met it's goal] when it would be really cool if they'd take a look at the other stuff on kickstarter and take the money and donate it to something [that they like] that's still trying to reach it's goal. I mean I get wanting to support the creator and all but...he's more than met his goal guys, he doesn't need more. So why not give it to someone who does?
