Truth is? Everyone in fandoms with bad reps gets tarred by it a little, it doesn't matter if you're an Old Fan!!1! or a just-discovered-it-tumblrite or whatever. And the only way to change that is by letting people know you're a homestuck fan, sharing your interest in an upbeat/reasonable/respectful way, staying the same fun friend they know, and backing off if they say they don't want to get into it.

As for the small fandom nostalgia...well, I had that for Harry Potter fandom back in the day. It's an understandable way to feel. Just don't be a dick to anyone about it, focus on the cool things about having a large fandom, and build the kind of small, intimate community that you want out of your own friends and contacts.
