I do this too, but I don't require "proof" when someone says they're not. I just assume until corrected, because all the fandoms I've been a part of in the past were mostly female.

The proof part makes me think this was trying to offend transpeople or sth. Except all my trans friends would do is give the OP a funny look as if they were insisting they were American when they just said they're from Canada. So it's funny to me.

uuuuuh isn't "until proven otherwise" an expression that as long as there is no basis to think the contrary. Say, like the person using a male pronoun?

Maybe it's just an ESL thing but I always understood that "proven" doesn't literally "proof" in this case
