(Anonymous) 2012-09-08 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)As was I. There was all sorts of debate about that after the episode aired, a lot of people were trying to justify Amy's actions with, "Well she was scared! She had cold feet about the wedding!" But to me none of that really justifies the fact that she tried to jump the Doctor right before her wedding night. She didn't just kiss him, she was trying to have sex with them. It really soured me on Amy for a while and it took me quite a bit of time to like Amy and Rory together.
Also, what is up with every woman on the show falling in love with the Doctor (Except Donna)?
Yeah the new series could stand to ease up on the romance angle every once in a while. Donna's story worked and I don't see why we can't have more companions like that. It's okay if a companion falls for the Doctor but it's nice to have a break from that for a series or two.

Donna was my favorite companion specifically because she wasn't obsessed with the Doctor. She just thought of him as a good friend. Without the romance I felt that left a lot more room to focus on her as an individual. I felt they developed her a lot more in a shorter amount of time than a lot of the other companions.
But yeah, I agree. Romance is nice and I can understand people falling for the Doctor but it loses its impact after a while if everyone is doing it.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-08 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)I love Donna too. We got so much from her in so little time that it actually just made me crave more Donna. I still wish we would have gotten a Ten/Donna series 5 instead of the specials with the Doctor alone.
Romance with the Doctor also never ends well, I'm one of those people who can't get into shipping something if I know it's doomed so romance for the Doctor is not really something that draws me to Who.

Same here! I just can't ship the Doctor with anyone human. Maybe if they were another Timelord, but even then I think another Timelord would just be an excuse for angst so they could kill that character off. I highly doubt they would introduce another Timelord as a stable and consistent character. (I'm not even going to get into the Master.)
But yeah, I'm not drawn to DW for the romance.
