I really wish people would just stop projecting onto Kanaya and treating her like some pride flag, and let people ship whatever the fuck they want.

This, so much. Fandom is only as bound to the canon as it wants to be. As long as people are having fun and not trying to bash other people over the head with their ships, so what? Somebody shipping Kanaya with a guy does not change the canon or invalidate your ships and and thoughts involving her.
