I don't assume anything. I take people at what they say. Because if they are lying and 'come out' as the other gender later, what did it hurt me to use the pronoun they said they preferred? I know a couple of guys who pretended they were girls for a while, one who still does, and at least one person people would be surprised to find out isn't a girl. (All on the forum I frequent.) Oddly enough I don't know any girls who masque as guys as far as I am aware of.

I do get a little ticked when people tell me they think I'm a girl though, because I'm semi-androgynous in appearance and have been mis-gendered IRL before and it gets...grating, after a while.
