I'm pretty sure the writers and producers feel the same way, considering the way his role has been developed and I hope will continue to be developed.

Exhibit A (spoilers): the last few episodes of season 2 would not have worked at all without him or if the audience didn't care about him. But they could have easily rewritten those episodes and not had Scott in it at all.
