That's a pretty common opinion about most television shows. The "best friend" character always becomes the fan favorite. Look at Gossip Girl. People tend to forget that Serena is actually the main protagonist. And in TVD, everyone is all over Caroline. And how many people even liked Marissa in The OC (I LOVED her but that's a very unpopular opinion). If I never watch HIMYM, I wouldn't even know that Barney wasn't the main character. Also, Brooke >>>>> Peyton (popular opinion; rightfully so).
