Yeah that ep made me uncomfortable. Also Dipper is sometimes a "nice guy" with Wendy, but luckily that hasn't been too heavy-handed (yet).

I'm sort of put off by the whole issue with Robbie. He's not that much of a jerk, he's nice to Wendy.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
He's threatening a twelve year old for no other reason than that he works with Wendy and she's nice to him. How is that not jerk behavior?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Dipper doesn't have the NG trait of resenting Wendy for not returning his wonderful feelings, at least.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
But isn't that trait what makes a Nice Guy a Nice Guy? I think people are starting to mistake "Nice Guy" for "anyone whose crush doesn't like them back." (Tho I don't watch Gravity Falls, so this isn't a comment on how it's being portrayed with these characters.)

He basically feels she should like him over Robbie because he's ~nice~ and Robbie is just a jerk. There was an episode where he basically said he couldn't compete against a 'jerk in tight pants'. Then there's the episode where he kept changing the events of a day, because he felt if he hadn't hit her in the eye she never would have started dating the other guy.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
lmao, are you serious? so, listening to what she has to say and caring about her without actually trying to be assertive is now being one of those dread "Nice Guys?"

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He does feel he's better for her, so he went out of his way and screwed over an innocent man just to take away her choice. "Oh, if I hadn't hit her in the eye she'd ~so~ be with me instead!" That is NiceGuy(tm) to me IMHO.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He's also twelve. Let me repeat this: HE'S TWELVE. And twelve-year-olds are not known for their maturity or thoughtful consideration for other people when it comes to romantic relationships.

You know what else is problematic behavior? Acting aggressively towards anybody else the girl you're interested in is nice to, even if he's a 12 year old boy. Robby is twice the "nice guy" Dipper will ever be, with a side of creepy possessiveness. Plus he's probably a zombie.

What did Dipper do to try to "win" Wendy? Not hit her in the eye and get her a stuffed animal. Robby, meanwhile, is getting ini fights with 12 year olds.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Possessiveness isn't a Nice Guy trait, it's just a douche trait.
