ok i'm confused. so what you're saying is... 'i can't relate to anybody who wears make-up for any other reason than attracting potential sex partners. i don't know why they do it'?

idk, to look good? self-confidence? you really cant relate at all?

Re: Confession

(Anonymous) 2012-09-10 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much. I know it's a bad attitude to have, but I see no point otherwise. :/ Wearing make-up doesn't give me self-confidence, but I know it makes me look better which means, hopefully, more people will be attracted to me.

same anon as above

so you'd wear no makeup to a job interview if it were a female interviewer? you wouldn't wear it when you're trying to make a good impression on new female acquaintances? you wouldn't wear it when you know your photo is going to be taken and you want those to look good for later? i mean, there are reasons to look good besides men or sex or being desirable.

Make-up is practically a requirement for my job. We handle a lot of clients face-to-face and the idea is not to be attractive but to look healthy and clean and professional. You can't do that with acne or blemishes, so foundation is necessary.

For male coworkers as well?

AYRT

In an indirect way. Nobody tells them to wear make-up but if they don't look good enough, they're plain not hired. We represent the company's interests to our clients and do a lot of presentations and PR and we're mostly women or metro men.

...what is your job, exactly?

Marketing.

Wow, this is why the work world sickens me. Not pretty enough = no job. Maybe that's why I'm always getting turned down for work.

Not blaming you, but hiring managers are so petty... I don't wear makeup because I don't find it necessary. It's a waste of money when I can barely pay my bills.

Re: Confession

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
...it's marketing. Being appealing is the entire point?

We don't have to be ~pretty, only clean, healthy, professional and not very hard to look at. Someone with a ton of acne on their face doesn't look the part whether they're Angelina Jolie or not.

I get the acne thing. I just have the impression (and it might just be me) that people look down on others for not wearing makeup. Taking care of the health of your skin is important though. God knows I fight a neverending battle with mine so people don't think I don't care about my appearance.

Um job anon above ^ I'm not the OP of the thread. Forgot to say.

Re: Confession

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I probably wouldn't wear makeup around a female interviewer or female acquaintances, but I would put effort into my appearance because I know that's what society expects.

I'd wear make-up if I knew photos were going to be taken because they could end up on Facebook or somewhere guys could see them.

I think good first impressions are important, but I don't really care as much about female judgements of my appearance.

DA

Out of curiosity why are male opinions so much more important to you? Are they more important even if they're not men you're attracted to?

Re: Confession

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Because I'm afraid I'll end up unhappy and alone. I know it's pathetic, but I have really low self-esteem. If a guy is nice enough and shows interest in me, I'll probably be willing to date him.

So long as you look clean and peppy (minus makeup), I don't see the need to wear makeup to a fucking interview. You can look clean with out makeup. ffs*

*Not at you, just ranting in general.
