What were some characters you hated or were indifferent towards at first 'sight', and then grew to love?
For me it's Jake from Animorphs.

Ah Jake, I kinda know how you feel about him.

For me?
Colette from Tales of Symphonia. Everyone I knew threw so much hate at her that by the time I got to play the game I was biased against her. Then I played the game and I really did find her irritating.

But then I took a second look. And I spent more time paying attention.

And you know what? I rather like her.

Cara from Legend of the Seeker. I went from intense dislike to huge girlcrush in about six episodes.

Goodness yes. At first I REALLY disliked Cara but then I grew to love her.

Oh, Animorphs! That happened for me with Marco. When I read the series during its run he annoyed the crap out of me, when I read it again 10 years later he was my baby.

Not exactly fandom-related, but... Nicholas Cage. Hated him for the longest time but finally actually enjoy him and his work.

I almost always fall in love with the kind of pathetic, weaselly type who everyone hates. It's always a surprise. I like to pretend I'm not totally into pathetic weasels, but that's the kind of character I end up loving. They don't even have to be particularly sly as long as they make up for it with plenty of patheticness. I try to resist, but I usually end up loving them.

So, like Quark from DS9. Also, Morgan from Earth 2 is pretty much my ideal character in this regard.

My favorites in the Outers are still, to this day, Saturn and Pluto. But on a recent rewatch of Sailor Moon S, I ended up more annoyed at Haruka, who I usually liked more than Michiru, and ended up LOVING Michiru instead.

I don't know if I'm in love with him, but I currently have far more Theon Greyjoy Feels than I ever bargained for. And I haven't even read ADWD yet. :P

Graham Specter from Baccano! I am pretty sure he just annoyed his way into my heart because I still have no idea why I like him this much now. :|

Rock Lee from Naruto, lmao
I hated him at first for some reason? I think he just kind of freaked me out with his eyebrows and bowl cut (wow way to be shallow self) but then I had a completely turnaround one day and he became my favourite character. Not that I keep up with Naruto any more. But he's pretty great.

Aww Rock Lee. Had the same reactions to him, though he never became my favorite like Gaara did. but he got up there. Same with Shikamaru. Though with Shika it was probably around the time of that arc where Asuma died....;~;

Shikamaru was just so awesome there and and *baws*

Shikamaru is great! I still love how he was the only one to become a Chuunin despite being so bored and unenthused all the time, haha.

Elliot from Scrubs (it didn't help that one of the first Scrubs episodes I ever saw was His Story II).

I have this weird thing where I CONSTANTLY fall in love with characters after seeing them get bashed by fandom, even if I wouldn't have given two shits about them if I hadn't seen the bashing. It's not even intentional on my part, it's just that the more fans bash a character, the more sharply the character's ignored good qualities stand out, so I notice those characters' good qualities a lot more clearly than I would see the good qualities in a character fandom was indifferent to or just mildly liked.

I started watching Supernatural earlier this year because I was interested in the Dean/Castiel dynamic. I ended up really liking Castiel but not caring much for Dean and Sam. Now it's the other way around. I don't really like what the show has done to Castiel's character, but I'm a complete Dean girl these days.

Troy Barnes from Community :DDD

James, Sirius, and Lily. Seriously in love with all three of them. James and Lily were just Harry's boring parents at first, Sirius was the crazy psycho murderer who looked like a skeleton, etc. But then fifth book came out and I'm crazy about them, and now they're not Harry's parents/godfather, Harry is that kid they had before they died.

Haha, it was Marco, of all people, for me. and Cassie. Jake was my favorite from the start. Most likely because, at the time, the model on teh covers was hot to my 11 year old eyes. :P

But as I read them again not long ago, Marco became a fast favorite, along with Ax and Cassie. Everyone else who I liked more when I was a pre-teen, I didn't like as much anymore.

As for non-Animorphs....Neville. He annoyed me in teh first book, bu by book 7, I had fallen for him.

Ooh, Rose Tyler from Doctor Who. Since I was exposed to the show via fanvids, f!s, journals and fics and basically super late to the nu!who bandwagon, I was expecting her to be the boring audience-surrogate the show was telling me to relate to. It did feel that way, but Rose grew on me pretty quickly. She may not be my favourite companion, but I find it hard not to like her. (and also her mom. I think I love Jackie way more than Rose, but I did not expect to love Jackie given the first episode of this series.)

Terezi from Homestuck. Boy, I really disliked her at first (but that may have more to do with Hussie being inconsistent when he was first introducing the trolls), and she came across as very self-righteous and obnoxious. I can take the latter, but never the former... Anywho, she also snuck up on me with her vulnerability and basic adorageekness.

Dave from Homestuck also. Considering I liked him better during his chats with Rose, or when he was taking a prat fall due to his Bro having an upper hand at everything ever, every other time he came off as trying way too hard and as your run-of-the-mill internet tough guy. so annoying.
But same thing happened like with Terezi, and I love him. TBH, I don't think there's a character in Homestuck I hate anyways. They're kind of all extremely likable for me. My hateboners only last as long as until I find out more about them or see them react differently to different situations—

Scott from Teen Wolf. He was written pretty terribly in Season 1 to be fair, but the second season vaulted him to practically my number one favourite. Which isn't saying much since all the characters are kind of smushed up there. Maybe Jeff Davis just sucks at writing angsty teen romance and makes every character suffer for it, but I liked that ALLLISSSOOOON wasn't his only theme this season, and it certainly helped ♥

Pam from Archer. Just. Pam. So amazingly awesome. ~~also, probably the show in general. thank god i went in with low expectations to be BLOWN THE FUCK AWAY WITH LAUGHS AND YEAH~~
