(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 12:42 am (UTC)(link)Some people really 'don't see color'; I grew up in a multiracial home. Two families of different races, with me and my siblings in between. Sorry, if you can't understand anything outside of your narrow, racially segregated world view.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 01:25 am (UTC)(link)I always have this hilarious because colorblind mentality is a very racist view that have been documented in many sociological and psychological studies because it ignores that it doesn't help with POC in their struggles at all, but merely ignoring them.
Thinking of a person's race is NOT BAD. I don't want people to ignore my skin color. Like or not, race is a part of a person. The problem of racism is that people will think of me as THE black person than a black person. To solve racism is to acknowledge a person's race and still acknowledge their personhood.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 01:38 am (UTC)(link)I think I agree. I guess, it's not about not 'seeing' race, so to speak, its just that it doesn't matter. For example, you notice someone is black, they same way you would notice someone is blond; but that's it, their race is as significant to their character as their hair colour.
That being said, when you are an ambiguous-looking person of mixed-race, who doesn't look very like either of your parents, race, at least for me, is inconsequential. Race has never been 'a part of me', I have always felt rather raceless. All I want is for people to acknowledge that not everything falls into this black-and-white world view of race. Some mixed race (and I say some, because quite a few mixed people end up looking completely like one race and not the other) like myself have a unique perception on race; I'm not the only ambiguous-looking multiracial person I know who feels this 'raceless-ness'. The problem is, I don't monoracials can understand our unique outlook and it causes miscommunication.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 09:01 am (UTC)(link)Also, the image to words conversion makes me SUCK at remembering people. I also don't usually remember if people are blonde/brunette/whatever without a specific reason.
