Re: Trans stuff
Are you positive that there's only one therapist in your general area who can help? They might be the only therapist who advertises that they do gender-identity related counseling and referrals or the only one who has been publicized for that, but they might not be the only therapist available. I'm not sure how it works in Canada. In the U.S., I don't think therapists need special qualifications to work with trans people, though I could be wrong.
If possible, I would look into local resources for trans people. There may be a local group or a local LGBT organization or clinic that's good at offering support. Not only could that help you find local physicians and therapists who are helpful, but it could also simply be a good way to find people who are going through the same things you are.
If your parents are supportive, I think it's great to keep communication open with them. But they also may not totally understand where you're coming from, and because of that, they have have a difficult time offering helpful advice or input. So talking to someone who does understand and can relate could be a good idea.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 01:28 am (UTC)(link)I'm fairly sure the one I've found is the only one in the area and she's the one that most of the organizations seem to recommend. It does seem weird that a large city like Vancouver would only have one person specialized to that sort of thing but I haven't found anyone else. I think only specific therapists can actually recommend someone for hormone treatments and do the analysis. So I do think I'll probably end up asking people directly since Google is failing me at finding anyone else.

best of luck!
