Doesn't "damen" mean "women" in German? This isn't the first time I've seen it as a name for a male in fiction (the other time was in that Evermore series by Alyson Noel). I think the name they're trying for is Damon, like in Damon and Pythias. I'm not usually bothered by weird spellings of names, but this one is annoying.

They could also be trying for 'Dameon', which is a name/variation I've seen a few times in real life.
