I think that's more a novelty hit than a sign that K-pop's getting mainstream in the USA. But there was that Girl's K-pop group on Letterman a while ago, IIRC, so maybe I'm wrong.

Girls Generation?

Yeah, they have the best chance of really bringing the Halleyu over here since they get a lot of hits on YouTube and their US concerts usually sell out. They need harder promotion though.

But Gangam Style is a novelty song through. People like it because it's catchy and has a silly dance with an awesome video even though the song is a critique about S. Korea's vapid over-consumption.

It might be a novelty for the US but it's not novelty for PSY. All his music is like that.

Yeah, many Kpop songs are like that. Even the first time I heard the song I think it's a bit Jpop-ish too. *shrugs*

I mean, dude on the street probably considers it "Korean Numa Numa" or something :I
