Job commitment-- help?
I'm looking at a number of jobs that I am really interested in, mostly involving government/military service. A lot of these jobs or educational opportunities involve several years of career obligation afterward.
I find these all incredibly interesting, but I'm hesitating to apply to them, because of their mandatory obligations. I also have a lot of fellowship/scholarships/jobs that I want to apply to that seem really interesting, but would conflict with the above. Everything from interning in local government press offices, to foreign language scholarships, to journalism scholarships.
But lot of the jobs I'm interested in have an age limit somewhere between 29 and 35 to apply. I'm 25. Am I too old to be dicking around experimenting with, like... a dozen career directions? I'm afraid that I'm running out of time, or that I should settle or already be settled, with a career choice/direction.
I'm afraid that if I commit to one thing, I might miss out on a bunch of opportunities, too.

And as Baz Luhrman says, "Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't."
In fact, there's a ton of good advice there, so: Here you go. (Apparently DW is not playing nicely with embed codes. It's just Youtube.)
Re: Job commitment-- help?
I didn't phrase the age thing well; it's more like, you can only apply up until the age of 29 (military officership), or 35 (police, some other agencies).
I'm pretty well geared up for base skills for a lot of these-- I speak two other languages and am well versed in the cultural areas, have spent a year working overseas, etc. It's just that I'm wary of shutting myself off to other things that could surprise me as being just as rewarding as I think the other things will be.
Or I'm afraid the other things won't be as rewarding as I thought, and I ended up in a career choice that I cant get out of for a few years.
But thank you for your reply, and the Baz Luhrman quote. :D
