That being said, I actually really like Trinneer and his acting. He was amazing on Stargate Atlantis. He's very talented and can obviously play a character that can evolve and grow. The show's writing just lacked substance to really let him shine.
Except for that episode where he got pregnant. That was hilarious.

I was really disgusted with the way TPTB ended the character, but by that point I didn't expect much better from the ST:ENT production team. And I was hoping to see lots more of Trinneer after Enterprise (and SA), but sadly, if it happened, I've missed it. *schedules trip to IMDB*
@OP: It's been a while, but I want to say that the character showed a bit of that "we Southerners are supposed to be X, but I can definitely lean Y" that was probably intended to be a positive, but often didn't sit well with me. *shrugs* But when compared to the (non-Southern U.S.) Captain of the vessel, Trip was usually the much more rational character, so you really have to take the quality of his surrounding characters into consideration when you judge him.
But... "...intense loathing..." Really? What the hell have Southerners done to you personally, anyway?

It was the same issue with Voyager-- only I actually found that the Voyager cast popped more and was actually likeable.
OP is weird.

I don't think I'm using a Southernism, though I did learn it in the South: to "lean Y" would be to bend a bit in your consideration of Y (Y = a position/attitude/lifestyle/whatever), but not necessarily to adopt it.

You see, that's the episode that made me feel the most uncomfortable.
It's cool to see someone who liked it though.

And then when she invited him to stick his hand into the marble bowl, I yelled at the TV "NO, YOU'RE GOING TO GET PREGNANT." I honestly did not expect him to actually get pregnant-- so it made the rest of the episode hilarious for me.

Wow, how did you know? That adds a whole level of, I don't know, scary hilarity to it? Are you psychic?

And yeah, I can definitely see the rape aspect now. D: That's horrible.

D: I didn't want to ruin the episode for you. I thought you knew. Most people who like the episode know but don't think it's rape or forced impregnation so... I'm so sorry. I thought we were on the same page. x_x Oh gosh.

At least you approached it appropriately instead of claiming I was knowingly laughing at RAPE. That would have been awkward.

I know you. (Kinda)
You're really cool. You would never do that.
And there has to be something I can do. Maybe it won't make you feel better about the episode but it will make you feel better?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 02:42 am (UTC)(link)I liked that episode until I realised how rapey it was. Same with Bound.
