The only example I can really think of is Artemis Fowl. When I was 14 or so I had such a huge crush on him, haha. But that aside, despite some good character development... I.... I don't know. Maybe it wasn't the character, exactly, but the writing. Or my getting older.

All the answer that are characters from Buffy make me worry. I'm just starting season 4 and I fucking love the show. I don't want to start resenting characters! But I didn't see Giles listed so maybe I'm safe.

FUCK. Well now I can't because I'm curious. This will be a fun decent into sadness. I appreciate the warning though, I suppose. Maybe if I lower my expectations I'll be pleasantly surprised?

Oh yes! I was spoiled for about 90% of all the plot points in seasons 6 and 7 by tvtropes before I even started watching the show, and therefore I didn't rage or fume at all at the stupidity :) I just kinda had it built into my mind to go "ooh, ooh, is this where the sucky part starts?" instead of being shocked and disappointed.

Well that's good, at least. Hmm. Now I have to go about finding out how to handle the disappointment. Maybe I can watch everything until season 6 begins, and then check out TV tropes or wikipedia or something? What would you suggest? Is there any stupid thing you can tell me of what to expect without spoiling seasons 4 and 5? I mean, that doesn't really seem possible. Hmm. I suppose that all of my ships have sunk as it is, so perhaps I can just enjoy the trainwreck as it comes.

Yeah, I'd say finish season 5 (and maybe the season 6 premiere) and then either spoil yourself or just lower your expectations and wait to see if you're pleasantly surprised. IMO, the tvtropes rants about it in the various trope pages are pretty amusing.
