In reaction to that thread about characters you never expected to fall in love with....what are some characters who made a really good first impression on you, but as time went on you started disliking them?

A few examples for me: Gregory House from House, the Nolanverse version of Bruce Wayne, basically every character from Six Feet Under.

(Actually, I have pretty much a built-in resentment of highly flawed characters who remain static and don't get character development, or who become even douchier over time. I love heavily flawed characters that DO get better, but I can't care about someone who refuses to even try.)

Angel from the series of the same name. I loved him in season one when it was him, Cordy and Wes. But the end of the series, I wanted to kick his teeth in. Though he did redeem himself with the series' ending. Him going, "I don't know about you. But I want to fight the dragon" was awesome.

Yup. Feel the same about Angel. I was never too keen on him but really hated him after awhile. Though that end line was pretty good.

Sherlock from the BBC series

Everyone in Torchwood (except maybe Tosh. And Owen probably doesn't count because he never made a good impression to begin with)

Everyone in Supernatural (except Bobby)

Seconding Torchwood, especially Jack. I hated him so much by the end of the third series that I stopped watching. And to think he was such a joy at first. Sigh.

Seconding Sherlock.
After seeing the pilot, I just couldn't watch the actual episodes anymore.
I loved pilot!Sherlock... He was much more like the original Sherlock Holmes. He seemed less immature.

Sirius Black. Loved him in book three and on my first read of Order of the Phoenix. Then I re-read it and started to seriously dislike him. Then book seven came out and made me feel like I had good reason to think Kreacher ought to have been treated a bit more nicely. XD

i feel this way about remus.

Lorelai from Gilmore Girls. No help from my mother though - once she pointed out all of Lorelai's ... Less than appealing traits, I couldn't unsee, and the show became almost unwatchable. Though I tried a rewatch, and all the characters are kind of awful :/ and the same with Bunheads (same creator) which is a shame because I want to watch a show about ballet on a weekly basis.... But it can't be that one :/

I don't hate her, but sometimes, now that I have actual life perspective, I want to brain Lorelai with a book.

Especially the last two seasons.

That was me with Rory. She was my spirit animal in the early seasons and then somewhere around going to college/getting bangs/stealing a boat she just became the most insufferable person ever.

Kurt from Glee. It was the biggest part of falling out of love with the whole show, and it still makes me sad. I loved him so much in season one and early season two.

Annabeth from Percy Jackson and the Olympians... after the love triangle came in. I'm on the forgiving side with characterization that gets screwed up by love triangles (I don't even dislike Mako), but she I felt was just ruined completely.

i never actually got to fall in love with her, but she was just so botched in BotL. and it was her first quest as a leader, too, she should have owned it.

The entire cast from Legend of Korra :( Except Lin Bei Fong.

I still like Asami and Bolin! Those two and Lin should get their own spin-off, leave Korra and Mako to make gooey eyes at each other or something.

Yeah, I had this problem with Mako and Korra to some degree. I liked their general concepts but the execution was....bleeeeeeh.

Dexter from the TV show- I just stopped watching at a certain point because the writing was so ugh.

A huge portion of Joss Whedon characters- Xander, Willow, Spike etc.

Also, if anyone reads Fables, I started to be super annoyed with Snow White and that pretty much ruined the series for me, because dang, they will not let anyone else have the spotlight, will they?

Liara T'soni? She was adorable at first but then I was just pretty much over her in Mass Effect 3.

Dark from D.N.Angel. I really liked him when I was younger but now I find pretty much every other character in that series more interesting...except for maybe Riku and Krad.

Also Yamazaki in Welcome to the NHK! In the anime he was obviously screwed up, but he still seemed like he had his heart in the right place, and like he genuinely cared about both Sato and Nanako. Then I read the original light novel. The way he comes across there is much more creepy and selfish. Now even when I watch the anime I can't help but remember the things that go on with him in the novel and I just sort of go "ick."

Olivia from Fringe. I liked her character when she was kind of I guess more stoic? But the more the show focuses on her the more she annoys me (especially because her actress is really not good enough to pull of certain things- like a leonard nimoy accent)

Her character also had characteristics I hate in main characters - the she's always "special" thing where for some reason she has all these different random super powers. And the every other character falls in love with her thing.

I still have not watched season 4 because I was getting annoyed with her and bored with her and Peter.

Almost everyone in SG-1
Batman, Superman, Wonder woman, Green arrow...the first generation.
And most of all, Captain America. Thank you movie!Avengers fandom. Thank you for writing him as a dickhead and an abusive asshole while not thinking he's either of those things. Good job. :/

Hal Jordan. I don't know if it was the Parallax thing, or just how Geoff Johns writes him with the most ridiculous retcons and self-importance, but I only just realised I haven't liked Jordan for a long time.

Nearly everyone in the BSG reboot, except Commander William Adama.

The only example I can really think of is Artemis Fowl. When I was 14 or so I had such a huge crush on him, haha. But that aside, despite some good character development... I.... I don't know. Maybe it wasn't the character, exactly, but the writing. Or my getting older.

All the answer that are characters from Buffy make me worry. I'm just starting season 4 and I fucking love the show. I don't want to start resenting characters! But I didn't see Giles listed so maybe I'm safe.
