Just to clarify, I mean stalking in the sense of internet stalking, not real-life stalking. And I was bluffing, if the secret doesn't make that clear.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Color me disappointed. I thought you had legitimately made this person fear for their life.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, in a way I kind of hope I did. I know for example that the reason I really try not to piss anyone off online is that there are whacky enough people out there who would track you down in real life if you got them angry enough. Not that I'm saying I would do that (or even if I could get away with doing that without a. being banned from the forum and/or b. getting a visit from the police), but if she's been on the internet long enough, hopefully that's where her mind went no matter what kind of stalking I was talking about.

....still have no regrets.

Here's hoping this community is on ball enough to ban your ass.

Re: OP

Soooo... you basically threatened her because she was "omg mean."

I hope you realize that cyberbullying in response to cyberbullying is not the answer and that responding to cyberbullying by threatening their well-being isn't either. That's like actually stalking and threatening violence against the popular kids in high school offline; you just don't do that, even via pretending. If she's being a dick, most communities have mods you can talk to about that, and if the mods don't take you seriously, then you probably want to go find another community with an awesome staff that actually gives a damn.

Sure, the internet could use far fewer dicks on it, but attempting to solve that problem by being a dick yourself isn't going to do it. You'd just be adding to the dickery count.

Re: OP

Yeah, the part where you're a crazy person stalking her doesn't sound like a bluff to me. You are obviously obsessing to a point about this person, and crazy enough to go and threaten and make them fear for their safety.

You should have regrets, but I guess you're okay with not being a decent human being. Cool.

Uhhmmmm that is kind of seriously a dick move, even though you don't mean it. D:

While the person you did this to sounds incredibly unpleasant and probably deserved to be 'stood up to', I'm going to be one of those people and say I can't agree with your methods. Stalking isn't cool (internet stalking included), and yes I realize you aren't actually stalking her, but joking about it makes me uneasy. Maybe it's because I know how much a message like that would freak me out, but...yea, can't say I'm going to high five you on this one.

I hope she does rethink her attitude, but imo this wasn't a great way to get her to do it.

wow you handled that... really poorly...

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
So, you're a hypocrite.

Congrats... ?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Don't you think that was a little dramatic? I'm a little embarrassed for you that you seem to think this is something to brag about. Also, I don't know what rock you live under, but it's really not okay at all to threaten to stalk someone. I don't think you have any concept of how traumatic being stalked is.

I don't think you needed to pretend to be "completely insane"--that you would go to those lengths even to threaten to stalk her like that shows that you definitely have a few screws loose already.

Yeah, this :/

I'm going to reply to this with a story I heard recently on the radio.

There was a little boy whose parents owns guns. The teacher asked people to say what he had done over summer. He told everyone that he had spent the summer in a cabin, and his dad went out and shot deers. The teacher asked if he had guns in his house, and he replied yes, not seeing a problem in it, because he had been to not touch them, and they were locked up. At that point, when recess started, a bully harrassed them the entire time saying 'what are you going to shoot me!? Fine shoot me! You have guns! Shoot me! I bet your daddy kills people with his guns, are you going to shoot me!? Shoot me! Come on!' This continued the entire lunch time as well.

Finally the little boy, in frustration said 'fine, I'll shoot you!' The other child reported him to the principle, and the little boy who was being bullied was expelled and now has to go to anger management, and has been labeled as a bully himself.

While some will say 'good, he is a bully, you should never react with violence', I think that someone can only get pushed so far before they say something that can't be taken back. You did this, and while people will rag on your for it, I understand that sometimes you can't help it, sometimes the only way to get it to stop is to scare them. Unfortunately this can get you in trouble too, even if you'd never act on what you've said. I applaud you for standing up, but I can't help but consider you a person who does not have the coping skills yet to deal with bullies, and next time I suggest you back away before you say anything again.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really think a frustrated boy blurting out a phrase that the other person was egging him on to say, really compares to what appears to be a premeditated post (with no after-regrets) from an adult.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Bullshit. That would be all over the news with the media crying OMG THAT POOR LITTLE BOY. So fucking bullshit.

Late but w/e

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, do you really think the news reports on every interesting thing that happens? People get decapitated by gangbangers and you don't hear a peep, do you think this small (in the sense that no one died, etc.) bullying thing just HAS to explode?

Duuuuuuuude. That's fucked up. Fucked up to do in the first place and fucked up to feel proud of the fact that you scared someone into thinking they were unsafe to the point that they stopped posting to what sounds like a a frequently visited site. You do not sound like a good person.

Stalking really isn't something you should treat lightly. It's a serious, traumatic experience. I have loved ones who were almost killed by stalkers, so this pisses me off. Even if someone is mean, implying that you're stalking them is a dick move. Being stalked can be extremely traumatic and violating.

Have you considered that she could save your post as evidence? Because that's probably what I would do (I doubt I'd contact the police right away unless I felt my real life safety was compromised, but I'd definitely report you to the site where you posted that stuff, and I'd save anything you said that implied you were a stalker in case I needed the evidence).

I can emphasize with being fed up with a bully and understand wanting to strike back. But I think this is a very inappropriate way of dealing with it.

9/10

I'm going to go against the grain and command you, OP! This is A+ trolling. Congrats, you're a sociopath using your powers for good! Have you considered going after Cassandra Clare?

Re: 9/10

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
there's no way OP is a troll. They're far too concerned with setting out the precise details of what happened and giving self-justified details. They really look like someone looking for approval, like a puppydog kind of a thing, like they did something that they think is cool but they really want other people to see it. there's that obsession with tendentious little details and complicated narrative of what happened.

Re: 9/10

Command them to what? (Sorry.)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe next time you do this add some spice and threaten to rape them as well. Nothing gets people worked up like fearing for their safety like stalkers who are rapists!

Do what now?

I don't know what fandom this is, but I find this disturbing. Two wrongs don't make a right. It sucks that there's a bully being an asshole in your fandom, but pretending to be an even bigger bully/stalker/asshole doesn't say much about you.
