Tarrlok is a sexy beast.

That is all I have to say.

Isn't there a report button on Greenlight or something that allows people to report stuff that isn't posted by the developers or is clearly racist etc? If not, there should be, that would probably help a lot.

wait, wait, is TooBig#1 actually "Actor shipped with the character they play"?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
yup

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
That is so completely hilarious to me, I can't even begin to say.

(And I am not a fan of either half of that OTP, but ... seriously, "immerse yourself in the character" indeed. ;p)

Titanic didn't feature real people, but a real-life tragic event was used for drama and entertainment value. DISCUSS.

Re: NS #4

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually it did feature real people. The officer on the Titanic who shot himself was a real person with the same name as used in the movie, and there was a big kerfluffle over his extremely negative portrayal when he had actually been a very decent guy.

Also, it was a crap movie. =D

I wouldn't cite Cracked as a trustworthy source, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and stand corrected on that; but it kind of holds up the point I was trying to make: that big-deal movies are made out of horrible tragedies all the time, and I was curious where, if any, the line was between these two things.

And pardon me for the run-on sentence from hell.

At some point, RPF becomes historical fiction. I'm not sure what the dividing line is.

I've wondered that too. Presumably after the people have died, but that's not always the case. Many made-for-TV movies can attest to this.

not!secret #1: Don't watch the show, I find him attractive as well. It's subjective; don't worry about it.

too big #1: I...really don't get that pairing, but to each their own. If the fic isn't to your taste maybe you should request something that is on a kink meme? Doesn't mean it'll be written or that more people will follow suit, but...it's better than nothing.

too big #2: Who are they? The blond looks like Billie Piper but I have no idea if it is.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-20 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Not Billie Piper :) Soap couple from Coronation Street - Sophie and Sian :)

I suppose you could do it the way Cassie Claire did, and just omit all references to the stuff you're shamelessly swiping from.

I swear I saw this before in the fail bar as a TB secret. 600x600 pixels maximum please, OP.

Yep, you did. OP does not understand "Too Big" obviously.

NS!4

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's... I mean, I am not really into RPF in the first place, but writing fic about tragedy or the events of someone's life doesn't seem that bad. I don't think it's really any different from writing RPF in the first place. When I imagine someone writing it about me or my family, it's not that weird - what's weird is imagining someone writing stories about us at all, not any specific situation. I think most of your arguments work equally well against RPF in general, and I think you're being a little alarmist and out there. As long as people are being respectful, if you're okay with RP fic in general, I honestly don't see how this is any different.

Re: NS!4

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think what the OP is getting at is that they think that writing stuff like that is sort of like, say...making jokes about someone whose just died. There's just a point where it's too soon after a negative event for it be respectful no matter how it's handled.

Not OP, btw

Is that Sophie and Sian? I so wanted them to have a happy ending, should've known better!

The terrible lack of good soap related fic in general makes me sad. I've always supposed it's because the canon just moves too fast, but I don't really know. /Mavis

N!S 2

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think it depends on how it's handled. I've seen some really good fic out there, that generally uses footnotes the same way it's been done in Prachett's work, so it really adds to the story more than being 'HOW TO READ THIS'.

I've also seen it done sometimes in historical fic that's covering a particularly confusing or complex series of events that the arthur is basically using the footnotes to explain oocly what was going on at the time/cultural notes for the groups involved

It's the wording though, where it's a statement as fact, rather than someone's opinion.

"this kind of rpf is wrong" vs "i think this kind of rpf is wrong".

"Greenlight's full of toolbags" vs "it looks to me that greenlight's full of toolbags"

etc etc

ns3: Report the inappropriate.

But yeah, agreed. Devs who think a potential "greenlight" means they'll totally see success don't bother me so much as the community who upvotes or downvotes without anything asked of them (eg: with kickstarter or indigogo, you vote with your cash), and leaving it like a gross tumblr/reddit/eta:reality-tv-like voting circlejerk. And what the hell is up with thumbing something down? Will a downvote effect the upvotes? Is that trollable shit have any use besides statistics?

It is new of course, so it's definitely too early to tell if it'll be terrible or awesome imo. And tbf, my bigger beef is with Steam saturating everything; I'd rather not buy an already available game on Steam. Better yet, I'd rather there be another store that indies and whoever can submit to and indiscriminately populate with crap and gems for me to sift through. /siiiiigh
