I like Elementary fandom for the most part, and I totally get their concerns w/r/t how people have been responding to the show in terms of being racist and/or sexist douchebags about it, but I just think their "screwing up Benedict Cumberbatch's name" thing is really immature. And I don't have a horse in this race, because I'm really not a fan of his, but come on. It's not funny, it's not exactly elevating the debate, and it's just...it really is just so 4th grade.

I'm less annoyed by them misspelling his name and more by the "it's okay to make jokes about his hideous face because his fans are racist/sexist," and I swear if I see them say curdled milk oppa one more time, augh.

I'm just gonna stay out of the fandom till it actually starts.

Even people who don't care about either show mess up Butterdick Cupcakebags Benedict Cumberbatch's name because it's silly-sounding and he's a douche though. On ONTD, pretty much every article about him has a pun on his name no matter the fandom of who posts it. It's just fun, as calling him a lizard man. It is immature, but that's the point of it. No one is trying to win points with it, it's just amusing.

I also like messing up Snickerdoodle Candybuns Bandydoodle Cumbersnatch Bandersnatch Cummerbund Benedict Cumberbatch's name. The Sherlock fandom itself was laughing about it themselves months ago on tumblr because like a Radio Times article did it or something.

Exactly. I've seen a lot of Sherlock fans I know do it. IIRC, even Benedict's made fun of his name! It is a sort of funny sounding name, and it's pretty innocent to make weird puns on it. Snickerdoodle Candybuns lololololololololol
