I mostly think that if you put your stuff out there in a format where reviews are possible, then unless you've specifically said "no concrit," you've pretty much tacitly agreed to take the bad with the good. It's not really about improving, in my view--it's that people are going to react to your stuff, and there's something rather contemptible about saying "I want to know what people think--but only if it's unqualified squeeing."

Still, there's no denying that some people are incredibly condescending and nasty when dispensing what they claim is constructive criticism.
