other physical reactions can be triggered by anger, such as tears or increased heart rate or any variety of things. the hulk transformation being triggered by anger could be perfectly logical.

(lol'd at giant green heart monitor)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
But a billion other things could cause the heart rate, too. Fear. Drugs. Et cetera. It makes it not necessarily need "anger" which is the whole point of the Hulk.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry, i think i phrased that badly! i meant that the hulk transformation wouldn't necessarily need to be caused by something physical (like the heart rate explanation the moviemakers gave) because if anger can trigger other physical reactions, it would make perfect sense that it could also trigger a hulk transformation.

i hope that's a bit more clear, i'm pretty tired rn and my thoughts are scattery.

Yeah, the only problem with linking it with a physical manifestation of anger is that those physical traits can be triggered by other things as well. Sex, for instance, was stated in the movie. If it was crying you better keep Bruce from watching Bambi.

So when I say anger I mean just the emotion.

Unless that's what you meant, in which case, ignore me! :D

(Ha, thank you.)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i meant the emotion, but i think i phrased it in a really confusing manner (i'm tired lol).

i was saying that the hulk transformation being triggered by anger is actually very logical and physically possible, despite what the moviemakers seem to think. if anger can trigger other physical reactions, it could also logically trigger a hulk transformation.

i hope that's a bit more clear!

Ah, no, that's okay. :)

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks! Yeah, I have to agree. If the emotion of anger can trigger physical manifestations then why can't it trigger the physical transformation into the Hulk? Makes sense to me.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i guess because moviemakers like having ~concrete evidence~ to explain these things, but "HE IS ANGRY" has worked for years and years in the past.

(and, as the anon below pointed out, there are very few things about the physiology of the hulk that make sense. might as well throw logic out the window on this one.)

And that right there makes me want to BAAAWWW because to me that seems like laziness.

(True. True.)

It seems cruel and unusual to have a canon reason to keep the hero celibate. Good thing he's not precluded from watching Bambi too.

Right? I mean, how could he ever deal with this scene?!

Those singing birds would get him every time!

Or something about Bambi's mom? Naaawww, gotta be the birds.

Life would be pretty damn unbearable, no question. :D (I forgot how adorable this movie is!! Thanks for linking.)

Luckily the sex = hulking out idea seems to be largely ignored by most writers, lol.

(You're welcome. The only real problem with that bird scene though is its placement. Mood whiplash anyone?)

Thank goodness. I hope they kind of ignore it in the next movies too. I need more Betty.

(That entire movie is just a rollercoaster of emotion. Bruce would be toast.)

Bruce/Betty is pretty hard to find, yeah. It's too bad; I thought they were cute together.

(Great, now I'm imagining literal Toast!Bruce. I blame you.)

Eh, I'm okay with not seeing it in fandom. I just really want to see her in the movie. I feel she was pretty shafted in the last one.

[identity profile] spicandspan89.livejournal.com 2012-09-14 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
(MOOHAHA.)

Fair enough. It's true, she didn't have much to do in the movie. That's one reason why I was looking for fic... sometimes, if you're very lucky, there's a gem with Women Being Awesome that makes up for wasted potential in the source material.

I know what you mean about the fic thing.

There is this one fic that deals with old school original Star Trek where there's a sickness aboard the Enterprise that only affects males. So all the women on the ship pull together to save the day. There's even a Klingon attack. It's really good.

Fics like that always make me smile.

That sounds great! Bechdel pass FTW.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-09-14 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
It was. It kind of makes me wish I could see something similar with Avengers.

Natasha, Pepper, Betty, Jane, Darcy, and maybe Sif and Peggy* all get together to save stuff while the guys are incapacitated. That would be some good stuff.

*I don't know how that would work.

[identity profile] spicandspan89.livejournal.com 2012-09-14 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I would definitely read that!

I think I read a fic where Sif gives Peggy an Apple of Idunn, so she becomes immortal.

Yeeeesssssss. Someone needs to write this.

Haha, I should post this on the Kmeme or something.

[identity profile] spicandspan89.livejournal.com 2012-09-14 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes yes you should!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 01:14 am (UTC)(link)

*Jane's got Sif's contact info. Time works differently in Asgard, she picks up Peggy on the way because whatever's going down requires all the hands they can get, or whatever. Previous interaction or not.

Free plot solution, available for all and sundry. If you want to thank me, give me some onscreen Agent Coulson. :)

B...Bambi's mom... died?

RRRWWWAAAARGH

Ahahaha~

Yes! I kind of want to see that now. And you know that means he Hulks out just as the birds start singing about spring so the juxtaposition would be gold.
