There is an automatic sense of self-defense that pops up when people give me critiques, especially if I didn't ask for any, but I've learned to swallow my pride and look at it objectively. I think a lot of people never get to that point and just stay defensive and mad regardless of how good or bad the critique is.

If someone is only writing for fun then I think it's more understandable if they don't want critique, unless they're stuff is so flawed that it makes it difficult to read. And if someone reacts badly to the suggestion of receiving some critique then they should just be left alone.
