Re: Pairings that squick you out or that you refuse to read?

I think Loki/Tony is one of a very, very few pairings that actually make me angry just to think about, so that'll go at the top of the list. Straight-up noncon is okay, but nothing else.

Draco/Hermione, Snape/Hermione, Snape/Harry. Draco/Hermione would probably fall into that tiny category of makes-me-angry-to-think-about if I was capable of taking Harry Potter fandom more seriously.

Giles/Buffy. It's literally like father/daughter incest, and not in a fun daddy!kink way.

CJ/Tony doesn't squick me or make me angry, but I REFUSE to read it. It's complete and total DNW for me. *icon*

Lassiter/Juliet, for similar reasons.

Picard/Data. It's just...horrifying, for some reason.

Actually, most hero/villain pairings set my teeth on edge if I like the hero at all unless they have a very special connection like Batman/the Joker, (and unless the hero and villain knew each other well before the villain went evil or the hero turned good, in which case I ship like crazy because it makes all the difference. Like, I can't even describe. So, so different.)

Picard/Data. It's just...horrifying, for some reason.

Maybe this is because you find Data child-like and Picard to be his form of father figure?

I know that's why I can't ship it.

Yeah, you're definitely right...but it's not just that dynamic -- it's the specific way that dynamic is portrayed. Like, Picard has so much sway over him, you know? He teaches him about the world and about human behavior and explains how people feel and act and what's considered okay and not-okay and polite and appropriate and what certain acts represent and how to communicate feelings and ideas, and the potential for manipulation there is astronomically higher even than other parent/child-esque relationships.

Yeah, I understand. More-Than-A-Father. And Data hardly ever questions it too. So it's like: :/

I just have a big problem with power imbalances. Seems we're in the same boat.

Yeah, not very many power imbalance ships rock my boat. :\

Continuing the subject of power imbalances:

Shawn/Gus (Psych). Shawn has way too much control over every aspect of Gus's life for me to be comfortable with it.

Jack/Sam (Stargate). She obeyed an illegal order because she was in love with him. That's not a healthy basis for a relationship.
