If you're interested in American politics, or the state of racial relations in America (circa early 2000s, anyway), I highly recommend Street Fight (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457496/), the story of the 2002 mayoral campaign in Newark, NJ. It's a fascinating piece of work and a very well-crafted film.

Another amazing story is Man on Wire (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1155592/), which won the 2009 documentary Oscar. It's such an improbable but wonderful tale!
