Seriously, this. Those were my thoughts after reading this secret.

Aside from "god, she's gorgeous, modeling is probably best for her."

It probably is. After the Hulk smashing him through rock, there's only like a couple of strands out of place.

Isn't it the other way around that's being complained about? WAHHHH WHY DOESN'T ALL THE COOL SHIT EXIST IN THE UK WE CREATED HP.

Shit that was created in America (i.e. leakycon) doesn't 'come to America.' It's already there.

Oh don't you know? Men always secretly want sex from women, unless the woman is ugly, in which case their DNW is hilarious, like a fat guy who gets his comeuppance for scarfing down all the food he can get his hands on by being forced to eat something gross. So they can't be traumatized by a woman forcing sex on them. Anyway, women are basically ineffective passive innocent children and can't actually do anything on their own or make conscious choices or be proactive, and therefore can't victimize a man, 'cause the only reason they would force sex on a man is if the guy was so attractive he short-circuited their brain, in which case he deserves to be congratulated.

And if a man gets raped by a man, he's a whiny little pathetic pussy who let himself get raped or brought it on himself. Because everyone knows women are the ones who are supposed to get raped by men, and women are whiny little pathetic pussies.

I've seen a couple fanfic that address that. I'm pretty sure I read something about Jimmy coping with the memories of things Castiel had done (including Dean) after Castiel no longer required a vessel.

I think a good portion of fandom takes a lot of 'comfort' from the fact that Jimmy consented to allow Castiel to use his body as he chose (probably not what he had in mind).

I'm a little iffy but I'm pretty sure the body sustained a mortal wound and Jimmy's soul was sent off to heaven and he no longer occupies it?

Not trying to be a dick or anything, but I genuinely don't see what people thought was so special about the pilot. There were a lot of things about it which really bothered me.

I'm just annoyed with the current YA boom because I, personally, do not give two shits about whiny 16-year-olds. I didn't even like reading about teenagers when I was a teenager.

That's pretty much how I feel about YA, but its success doesn't really bother me. At least YA readers are buying books and keeping publishing alive for a little longer.

But that's the thing, they are assholes. That whole fucking comic Bryan made about "trolling," where he's basically suggesting that people are accusing them of trolling because Korra is just too awesome, and has so many things happening and such high narrative stakes, it was just unbelievably irritating in its smug self-importance.

They think they're hot shit, when the truth of the matter is (we now see) that A:TLA was great in spite of M&B, not because of them, and now that they've been given total creative freedom, we see that not only are they shitty storytellers and writers, they're so shitty they don't even know how shitty they are. It's the Dunning-Kruger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect) effect writ large.

And yeah, you know -- I do take it personally, probably too personally. Because I'm constantly holding up A:TLA as an example of what great genre animation can be, and now they've made this new thing and it makes me look like a chump for having been such an evangelist for them in the past.

If I'm a hater, it's because I hate that Korra was so bad, when it should've been, and could've been, so good, and I know who's responsible for that.

There's nothing wrong with her putting school off.

She can't model forever. It's a pretty small window of time that one can do that in.

I also quit ER once Mark was gone. :(

FWIW, the way House ended redeemed a lot of it for me. The last few episodes were really sentimental, but it was a kind of sentimentality that really worked for me and ultimately made me feel hopeful. YMMV, obviously.

I like it too.

I like just about everything by Haruki Murakami--my favorites are 19Q4, Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World, and South of the Border, West of the Sun.

Natsuo Kirino writes some really unsettling but really fascinating stuff. If you can stomach awful people doing awful things because of societal pressures she's worth reading. Out is her best-known work in English.

Uh, what else....I have a lot of issues with Dan Simmons, but The Terror is 3/4 of a good historical fiction novel about the doomed Franklin Expedition to find the Northwest Passage. The ending isn't very good, but the majority of the book is excellent, creepy survival horror.

I don't know if this is online, but have you tried Picasa? It's a nice beginner program (freeware) from Google, and it's a pretty good program for secrets, I think. :)

Because there's a fuckton more Americans in the English speaking fandom than anyone else. It's purely a numbers game. The US has the 3rd largest population in the world, nearly all of which have access to the internet and popular culture. Just using random chance, most fan projects are going to be made by one.

I don't know. I get more NiceGuy (TM) from Bolin (Fandom wise) Just a mountain of "OMGZ HOW SHE NOT LIKE BOLIN HE SO NICE SHE BAD WOMINZ OMG"

As if the fact Bolin is nice somehow entitles him to Korra's affections. /face+palm

Me neither. Aside from the consent issues, there seems to be a lot of stuff taken out of context. I was totally ready to ship it going into the show (I love pairings dealing with mythical creature/human, exploring their differences etc) but every time I got to something that's supposed to be a big "moment" I was just left underwhelmed. The "profound bond" line in particular, because it's comparing Dean and Cas' bond to Sam and Cas'.

Also, interesting that anon should bring up Sam/Ruby. Apparently Sara Gamble went out of the way and against the other writers to show Ruby possessing a dead girl, because she wanted it to be at least a little more acceptable.

...that was a little more bitter than expected, but I woke up this morning to find my tumblr dash covered in an argument about who's better friends, J2 or Cockles.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Most superhero costumes are just plain epic in their OTT ridiculousness, but geez, only someone as awesome as Captain America could pull that garish thing off without coming off as incapable of being taken seriously. Thank god for that line about "needing a little old-fashioned". Made the idea that Steve would willingly sigh and say to himself "okay, whatever, if it sends the right message I'll wear this ridiculous thing" much easier to digest.

The cowl pushed it past the breaking point though. I loveloveloveloveloved the movie to an unhealthy degree, but shit, son. You just look stupid. They could've at least given him that helmet from CA - that one looked outlandish, but not sporfle-level preposterous.
