But of course, we're not done yet!
Here's today's spider-
source
Plexippus paykulli, a true city dweller! This is one spider that you're more likekly to find inside your house than out in the woods. It's fairly easy to spot, though- not just because of its distinctive colouring but also because it likes to wait around light sources to nab insects that fly too close. They're about a centimeter in length, which is large enough to easily be seen. These spiders are also pretty smart and successful hunters; they'll go after anything from tiny flies to cockroaches that are more than twice their size, and make a good job of it, too.

And they kind of make me want to commit the kind of animal cruelty that involves putting mascara on them to brighten up those eyes even moreanimal pic thread is very good at skewing the perception of adorbs. Thank you

I was wondering, can you help me identify a jumping spider I saw recently? It had a lovely red abdomen that was bordered with white, it was very active and wiggled its furry grey palps a lot. It was so cute and I want do find out what it was, but I don't even know where to start looking for a spider identification guide! D: Is there an index of spider species somewhere?

As for where to find information on bugs, I'd say bugguide.net (which I linked to) would generally be a good start! That and google is about all I could really point you to.
Hope that helped!
EDIT: Check out the insignarius group of Phidippus spiders! It was possibly one of them, they fit the red / white thing you described the best.

From this I would say it was almost definitely Phidippus adumbratus! Thanks, you are super helpful! :D *bookmarks the bugguide site*
