Wow, that's total shit. I think it would be ok if you met him after class and explained the situation to him. Maybe just say, "That woman the other day was trying to embarrass us, so why don't I make it up to you by buying you some lunch?" It shows him you're interested without being creepy and he'll probably appreciate being able to talk to you without that annoying lady hovering like that.
