(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)But there IS a difference when you play a game, and part of that can even be the frustration that comes with being bad at a game. Many of my conversations about video games with friends are along the lines of "Oh god fuck the Water temple!" and then we can rant about which bosses we though were the hardest or which enemies we hate the most.
That is something I would imagine you don't get from LPs, I think you can still get the story and be part of fandom, for sure, but you are missing out on some sincere conversations.
Again, not judging, this just came to mind as something that would be different.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)second, hate to tell you but no, doesn't exactly work that way. I can sit by a friend of mine's side, watch him play, feel his frustration, talk with him about it and then carry that knowledge over into other conversations.
...and you never know the difference.
how do I know this?
because I do it all. the. time.
talking the finer points of the game and strategy and the gear make up for the stats to get you through some of the harder levels on nightmare mode? no, probably can't keep up a good conversation with those folks.
but those folks aren't busy making sexytime fics with m!Shep/Kaiden for them to notice me.

spelling fail and inability to edit makes for sad anons.
but before anyone sees that as a reason to leap on me? I am in a roleplaying game where someone is playing f!shep where the player has spelled it shepherd...and she has played the game, so...

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)It was asked "What is the difference between watching the LP and playing?" And I do personally feel that there is a difference, just because you can fake a conversation about knowing what it's like to play the game, it does not mean there isn't a difference.
I am not judging watching LPs or telling people who do to GTFO out of fandom, I am just recognizing that there is a difference, I do not see how that is at all horrible, so calm down.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I'm not the one whining that the dirty dirty poseurs are fucking up their fandom by not enduring the trial by fire of playing a video game before participating in fandom, sweetcheeks.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)Frankly you sound like you've gone into hyper-defensive mode. People would probably not mind as much if you weren't trying to come off as a fanfiction-writing, non-video game playing punk who totally beat the system maaan.
chill out.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)not everyone can play the game.
not everyone can afford the game.
not everyone has time to play the game.
not everyone is you, cumdumpster.
and here's a clue, dickwad. I can play the games, I do play the games and there's an awful lot of entitlement going on in this thread that seems to assume it's as easy as just doing it.
so get off your fucking entitlement shit and CHILL OUT yourself, asshole. if this doesn't apply to you. hoofuckingray. butt the fuck out.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)And lying to participate in fandom is sad as hell
