Re: The Middle East and Western Asia riots- Your thoughts?

But that's the thing, it's all men of a certain age, (18 to 45) You don't see children or young teenagers. No women. No elders. Just men.

So, I don't think it's Islamic extremists as much as a cultural thing. Like in most riots, it's usually men between those ages that make the majority of rioters. Yes, there are women and younger teenagers, but, again, it's mostly men.

that's their culture. it's male-dominated. most islamic extremists (from what i've seen, rather) are male able-bodied adults.

their culture is based almost entirely around their religion so i don't think if you removed religion from the equation they'd still be rioting. in many predominately muslim nations, those in ruling power have extremist views, which give extremist sects power too. so this kind of violence ends up being common and shaping middle eastern culture.

Agree with [personal profile] saku above. Muslim culture is very male-dominated and is interwoven around religion so much that in some Muslim countries pulling religion away from their culture is ripping the culture itself apart. The ruling power having extremist views is also an unfortunate thing, though thankfully where I live they are so far removed from central politics that their political views are mainly ignored from the main populace, or any sane person for that matter.
