Agree with saku above. Muslim culture is very male-dominated and is interwoven around religion so much that in some Muslim countries pulling religion away from their culture is ripping the culture itself apart. The ruling power having extremist views is also an unfortunate thing, though thankfully where I live they are so far removed from central politics that their political views are mainly ignored from the main populace, or any sane person for that matter.
