Landlord Issue
Gotten photographic evidence of everything, pulled together a report of all the issues that have occurred within the house, and started proper dialogue with the agency managing our property which nicely demonstrates have incompetent they've been and served as a paper trail for the health and safety claims that have been unresolved. Phoning the council and CAB tomorrow.
Eviction is set for three days from now, and both the agency managing our property and especially the landlord seem certain we're going to leave on that date.
Given they haven't actually managed be competent enough to serve us a legally valid eviction notice I don't think it's going to work out quite how they imagine :3
The landlord and her daughter are almost certainly going to go ballistic tho, which is not going to be fun.

Just wasn't a legally valid one.
So now they're going to have to give us another one, for a months time from rent payment.
They were trying to be clever because valid notice requires they provide contact details for tenancy advice, that after the end of the period they will need to seek a court order, and so on. Were relying on us not knowing our rights. Thought we'd just move for fear of bailiffs turning up on the day or such.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before your court date--and don't forget to put plenty of stress on everything that adds up to a pattern of her harassing or otherwise retaliating against tenants for raising health/safety/habitability issues!
If you have any anxiety about public speaking, go through your statement in front of a friend. Make sure it's short and punchy--it will make you look better than her, since I would bet good money that your landlord will ramble all over the place, repeat herself, and hopefully contradict herself.
