Re: Landlord Issue

It's a pity the failure to turn on the heat isn't happening now--if it was, I think you could certainly bring it up it as an attempt at an illegal "self-help" eviction, which would be a huge black mark against her. (Unless she was already trying to evict you last year?)

Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before your court date--and don't forget to put plenty of stress on everything that adds up to a pattern of her harassing or otherwise retaliating against tenants for raising health/safety/habitability issues!

If you have any anxiety about public speaking, go through your statement in front of a friend. Make sure it's short and punchy--it will make you look better than her, since I would bet good money that your landlord will ramble all over the place, repeat herself, and hopefully contradict herself.
