I hate the Boy Scout Steve trope. I've been reading a lot of Avengers fic and most of the time Steve is portrayed as a goodie-two-shoes that doesn't drink or curse and is a prudish hard ass Mother-hen when the rest of the team decides to have fun. It is like the authors are confusing Steve with the fifth season version of Arnold from the cartoon Hey Arnold.

In the movie, Steve disobeys orders, picks fights, curses*, drinks, and lies on his enlistment forms. Based on his conversations with Bucky and others, Steve is sarcastic and has a sense of humor. It is clear that he has PTSD and is depressed in the Avengers. The Avengers team are a lot like the members of the Howling Commandos.

Dum Dum Dugan- Bruce
Jim Morita/James Falsworth- Clint
Gabe Jones- Thor
Jacques Dernier- Natasha
Howard Stark- Tony

*Peggy- "You can't give me orders!"
Steve- "The hell I can't! I'm a Captain!"

Uhhhhh...Howard Stark wasn't a Commando, and um lolwhut is with that list?

I know Howard wasn't a Commando. Tony acts more like his father than Falsworth or Morita. Clint acts like a combination of them. I was merely pointing out that the Avengers team are like the Commandos and matching them up based on their personalities from what I saw in the movie and read from their biographies ( http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Howling_Commandos ).

Well, he might not bother to drink anymore - it doesn't get him anywhere except not thirsty, since alcohol doesn't work on him. So I can buy it - may as well drink a soda or whatever, really.

As for cursing, oh, he definitely does - I think more in his head or under his breath because I imagine doing films for the USO and such meant he had to watch what he said and probably got into a habit of it.

I agree on the PTSD, I have no clue how you came up with that list.
