Most gay male characters are not portrayed this way any more. People who think so are either not looking, or they're a little too good at gender policing and declaring characters as femme who aren't really.

Mind sharing some examples of non-femme gay male characters on modern television? :)

It's a possibility that I'm just not watching the right shows, so I'm open to hearing some.

Quickly off the top of my head before I go to bed... All of the gay characters in Glee who are not Kurt. Blaine, Karofsky, Sebastian.

Half of the gay characters in Degrassi. Riley and Zane. Marco isn't all that femme really.

In True Blood, Lafayette is half a crossdresser and sassy as hell, but kicks major ass... Russel isn't any more camp than any character in the show, Steve and Talbot are pretty much pure camp, though. Jesus is quite masculine.

Danny in Teen Wolf.

The other guy in The New Normal. David.

One of the guys in American Horror Story. Patrick.

Michelotto on The Borgias.

Ian and Mickey on Shameless.

Four guys in Spartacus.

Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones, and John Hart on Torchwood.

Alby on Big Love.

Jack Harkness is a tricky one-- because he can go from flamboyant and fabulous (although, technically not "femme-y") to stern and character driven dependent on the scene. I found that interesting about him. John Hart and Ianto are good examples, though-- same with Danny. :) Thanks for pointing them out.

I haven't seen all of these shows, but I'm much more relieved to hear there are some strong examples (and many!) out there.
