Dentists/Orthodontists
What's your least favorite part of the dentist/orthodontist? I really hate when they're scrapping the tartar and it sends wave after wave of goosebumps.
Re: Dentists/Orthodontists
(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)but then again I'm terrified of dentist stuff

And I have receding gums so if they aren't careful, I wish for death.

I'm probably biased because my first dentist appointment was when I was thirteen and I've never had a cavity or a serious issue so I don't have negative associations and I have a thing for oral hygiene.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)It makes me sad, too, because when I was a kid dentists would always tell me how beautiful my gums were. And I ruined them! Ruined!
But I do really like my new dentist. She's very nice and has never yelled at me even a little bit. The hygienist, too. I get disappointed if they have the day off when I come in.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)Though that wasn't nearly as bad as almost everything at the orthodontists'. No love for that place, ever.
Re: Dentists/Orthodontists
I hated fluoride and having to bite the vacuum straw thing to keep it in place though. Oh, and the scrapey tool thing too I guess because of that goosebump thing you mentioned.

That said, I'd rather a dentist appointment over an appointment with the eye doctor any day of the week. I'm a big baby when it comes to eyes.
How bad is your tooth?

I hate it because my teeth and gums suck no matter how much attention I give them.
But I love it because my dentist is the sweetest lady ever. I love talking to her and catching up. If it wasn't weird to ask because of our age difference and me being her patient I would so ask to hang out with her at other times.

Re: Dentists/Orthodontists
Worst part of all time was when I got my wisdom teeth out. I got those out about 3 years ago and I still have nerve damage in my mouth. Ugh.
Re: Dentists/Orthodontists
The worst part so far, though? When I had my first appointment and they made a mold of my teeth. Horrible. The tray they put in my mouth, and the stuff they used to make the mold, gagged me horribly. And the stuff tasted terrible. And worst of all, the mold got stuck in my mouth and the technician had a hard time getting it out.
But in general, the worst part of dental appointments is having to keep my mouth open wide. I have some TMJ issues (the reason for the braces) and it used to be a lot more severe. Sometimes I can't open my mouth wide without feeling like it's going to get stuck like that, so it's hard to keep it open for a while without periodically closing it.
Re: Dentists/Orthodontists
(Anonymous) 2012-09-18 06:33 am (UTC)(link)I've been to the dentist a total of 5 or 6 times. 2 of them painful. I'm thinking of going again at the end of the year because it looks like Medicare FINALLY covers it. Shit is pricey.
wisdom tooth removal was terrifying. They had to be removed after they'd been properly grown out for years and I've only been to the dentist like 6 times in my life. I was terrified of the pain and the needles in my mouth and opening my mouth to let someone rip my teeth out. What if the sneezed and cut my tongue in half?
I'd never even had local painkiller before so I was worried it wouldn't block out all the pain.
Thank fuck I only had 2 wisdom teeth to removed.
Having them grind one of my teeth down was also concerning, but not as terrifying since they weren't cutting me open in my mouth (I chipped it in half to the ?quick?. My options were get it capped and buy new caps every few years or just get the jagged edges ground away. I figured the latter was cheaper in the long run and declined the local pain stuff because expensive)
