I liked her in Nine's run. Something about her and Ten just put me off the whole show. It took Donna to get me watching again and I say this as an 'old school' fan.

I feel like Ten and Rose were too drunk on their own awesomeness. It really pissed me off in the Queen Victoria episode.

Yeah, the usual criticism that I used to hear about S2 was that they were smug. I liked S2 and even I found them kind of insufferable after a while, and then having Ten be all "I miss Rose, why aren't you Rose, Rose would know what to do :( :( :(" towards Martha throughout the next season only made things worse.

Tooth and Claw would have been a great episode if it wasn't so clear that we WEREN'T supposed to agree with Queen Victoria at the end.

I think we were a bit. Or rather, we were supposed to agree with Rose and the Doctor at the time. And then when the Torchwood two-parter happens at the end with them getting separated, you realize that this all happened as a direct result of their smugness in that episode. The whole reason they were separated was because they were too smug and uncaring of the people around them, feeling sad but still cracking jokes in the face of death and distraction.

So in that sense, Tooth and Claw is one of my favorite episodes in hind sight.

Meh, it's one thing to be OMG! Werewolf! Koool! when it first happens, but when you're still that way after one of the guys trying to save you gets viciously shredded before your very eyes and still be like that, you go from 'smug' to 'outright sociopathic'.

They weren't sad until Victoria called them on it.

It's funny, David has said that was the episode where he found the character of the Doctor, but I think that was the episode when they were the most OOC. They weren't as callous before the episode, nor after, so it was like RTD or whoever didn't trust that Doctor and Rose were bad enough, so he exaggerated the bad behaviour.

Thissss. I was so excited when it was 'reboot', and I loved her and Nine, and then Ten came and I was like, "WTF IS THIS SHIT?"

I wanted to love Ten so much. I was pretty excited for Martha and then it became clear that she was going to be in love with the Doctor too. It's like RTD read all the speculative fanfic about her being strong and independent and sort of having a Tegan arc (does anyone remember that? When we all thought Martha's run was going to be the Doctor promising her just a short trip and then he's never able to get her properly home and she's like 'Dammit Doctor I have exams!').

Ten worked best with Donna, IMO, not only because she wasn't in love with him but because she called him on his crap when he needed it. Martha occasionally did, but her being in love with him kind of hindered her ability to see his faults.

Yeah, my enjoyment of Martha was spoiled by her being in love with Ten. I don't get why anyone would be in love with him though. He's an selfish asshole (more so than the Doctor normally is). Rose at least fell for the Doctor when he was Nine.

Agreed. But then again, I don't get anyone being in love with the Doctor period. He's an awesome character, and he'd be fun to travel. He'd completely suck as a boyfriend/lover/whatever, though.
