I don't think that's necessarily wrong. I mean, it'd be nice if this wasn't even a question anymore, but women are more the half of the population; it's really ridiculous and unreasonable to not even have a show pass the Bechdel test or whatever. (And I have such mixed feelings about the Bunheads thing--Shonda's kind of the only one getting it right with the color-blind casting thing, but I didn't like the way she said she couldn't "feel good" about her kid watching the show because they were all white. Like, she can't get anything out of it now?)

OP here

THIS! Tbh, I agreed with ASP when she said, "I don't give a shit who you learn your life from" because that's pretty much exactly how I feel. I don't NEED to see Hispanic characters on every show I watch to feel ~represented or whatever (and I watch a TON of TV and can't think of any off the top of my head right now, but that's probably because I'm in a hurry), because I still get tons of awesome female characters I can root for or identify with. So writing off a whole show with good role models for her kid because of that one aspect and going off on Twitter about it like it was some sort of personal affront was a "cry moar" sort of thing, for me.

Agreed. I saw someone on Tumblr say that they are starting to not watch anything that doesn't have a primarily minority cast, and I was like, "Well, good intentions, but you're going to discount everything else 'cause it's dominated by white people?" Yeah, we desperately need more media that features a diverse set of characters and doesn't delve into tokenism or cliche, but until then, if I'm intrigued by a premise, I don't care what the racial makeup of the cast is; I'm gonna watch and then judge it based on whatever else happens.
