When I read the text on this secret, I could have sworn the background image was moving, but when I looked directly at it, IT STOPPED.

Did anyone else see it, or should I be laying off the caffeine?

lay off the caffeine >_>

Try and imagine instead that they all speak like Meowth from the show, Brooklyn accent and everything.

I really wish I could know whatever the person who did Victreebel's voice was thinking when they did it.

I always liked the noises they use in the games.

Considering they're chiptune, that wouldn't exactly translate well to a cartoon. But I would have still preferred that over the name voices thing.

Aww, come on, OP. What would our childhoods have been like without them?

what bothers me is how SOME pokemon make normal animalistic screeching/roaring noises, but others do the name thing. come on guys, all or nothing.

Why should it be all or nothing?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-19 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Consistency.

[personal profile] silverau 2012-09-19 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Not having all 600+ fictional creatures in your fiction universe do the same thing =/= inconsistent.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-19 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that they should all make the same noise, so much as why are only some of them capable of forming human sounds, despite others who don't having equally human mouths and vocal cords, when ones like Staryu demonstrate that the requirements for this don't even include having a goddamn face.

Pokemon. POKEMON....

because the fact that some are capable of pseudo-speech and others aren't bothers me :(
do pokemon like charizard or dialga just have no vocal chords, but blastoise does? like really, what's going on there

What I like about the games is that they seem more animal-like, and I imagine they make noises more similar to what they make in the game(even though they're usually just scratchy digital noises).

My brother and I have this game where we take normal phrases and try to pronounce them as if they're pokemon names

so i guess i have to disagree with you because then my brother and i wouldn't have our stupid but strangely fulfilling game.

I don't really have a strong fan-opinion, but I would like to live in a world where I never hear "Pika pika~~~"

(Anonymous) 2012-09-19 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, seriously.

I could understand a few of them being named after the noises they make... I mean, that happens IRL too (whippoorwill, etc.). But when you try it with ones like Exeggutor or Mr. Mime, it's just embarrassing to watch -_-

Yeah, most of the anime voices sound really dumb. :/ I think it's fine to ignore anime canon for game fanworks, though. When I write fanfiction the only Pokemon that I have say their name is Pikachu, because in Yellow Version it actually does that. For the rest I just write that they growl, squeak, bark, whatever.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-19 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
At least ones like Pikachu almost sound like they could just be legit vocalizations instead of just saying your name over and over again.

I always wondered if that's how they named their new discoveries. Poke it with a stick and see what it says.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-19 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
What if you poke it with a stick and it eats you instead? What then?

I like David Attenborough. No eating David Attenborough!
