Eragon Series (SPOILERS)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-18 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about it...and the last book in the series was really the only one where I didn't guess everything that was going to happen. I'm actually shocked Paolini didn't have Eragon and Arya get together in the end. I was even more shocked that he allowed Murtagh to live (Murtagh<3) And I also assumed Roran would be king, so it was sort of nice Nasuada ended up becoming the ruler.

But that finaly battle...Galbatorix really was a very lame villain. Dying by sadness...a new low.

I mean, it's not like I was going to finish the book anyway (Got it the day after it came out - halfway though now), but WOW.

SPOILERS-

Eragon makes him feel all the pain he's inflicted over the years on other people/dragons/etc and he kind of....decided he'd rather not exist anymore, lol

The ending made me mad. Eragon and Saffira have to go to the middle of nowhere to raise the new dragons, okay. But they can NEVER return and see his homeland and loved ones ever again?!? BULLSHIT. Needless martyrdom? CHECK. Ugh! /rant

(I am glad Murtagh lived, though.)

Murtagh got to live?! Sweet. He was the only reason I even thought about reading the last book, and then I stopped paying attention and apparently missed the release date.

And now I don't even have to read it, so double bonus! :D

Spoilers AGAIN!

I'd read it for the Murtagh bits. His love for Nasuada changes his true name and he's able to go against Galby. It was a nice throwback to his motehr's plot, and I liked how in the end he was more like her than his father.

We listened to the first book on tape on a road trip, and I just. can't. Part of it was the guy reading the book (I wish I could do voices on here so y'all could feel my pain), part of it was the predictability of the plot. If we hadn't been driving with an eight year old, we would have made a drinking game: take a shot every time Eragon says, "But I don't understand!" You'd be drunk off your ass in five seconds. LOL
