Well, namesmushes are chosen more for the sound of the portmanteau word and not which character is male (or older or alphabetically first or etc.); see Pepperony (Pepper Potts/Tony Stark) and Blackhawk (Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye/Natasha Romanov, aka Black Widow) for examples in which the female character comes first.
It's also worth pointing out that in Star Trek and other military fandoms, the traditional naming convention isn't alphabetical order but superior officer/subordinate officer, hence Spock/McCoy, Sulu/Chekov, Janeway/Chakotay, and, yes, Picard/Crusher.
I take your point as regards name order for het ships in other fandoms, though.
